The bathroom is a threshold between selves // this ‘ghost in the machine’ cordially invites you to their nightly unbecoming ritual. Perhaps you’ve been here before, dissecting < yourself > in the mirror. The algorithm dissects you too; it fossilises gestures, comments, smiles. You move through the internet, shedding skins like a cicada in summertime. Those old selves persist / hollow / still blinking,, and if you looked back now, at that forgotten photo, or that old comment chain…. are still looking at yourself?... Does it look back? The thing that wears your skin.
"Ghost in the Machine" was a site-specific video installation created for the SET! Film and Moving Image Exhibition 2026. It incorporates a video on a laptop, with synced pepper's ghost holograms, and projected poetry. This original poetry was devised by Emmanuelle Kate, and performed by myself.
SET! Film and Moving Image Exhibition 2026 was curated by Ava O'Brien and Nell Trotter. SET! looked at the home as a hard-drive - a space that can be revisited, transformed and [rebooted]. Five artists were invited to create original video installations for each room of the house - the garden, bedrooms, living room and the bathroom.
